First we started out with a really good breakfast
Harrison kept saying that the baby must be sad, because the mommy mammoth was stuck in the tar
We all had to see what it was like to pull something out of the tar...great experiment!

Here is where they bring the bones from the tar pit and wash them off and preserve them. COOL!!
This gives some perspective at how close the fires were...you can even see flames. Very unnerving.
We ended our trip with a rainbow.
It wass back to the heat of AZ, but before we went home - we stop in downtown LA at the La Brea Tar Pits. It is an actual tar pit that they have been excavating, and are finding animals from the Iceage. The museum was supposed to be for the kids, but Todd and I loved it. We learned so much...for example...did you know that there use to be Lions in California?? Neither did we, and that was just the one of the many facts that blew us away. It was a Rhodes Family favorite, that I highly recommend. We will definitely be going back there.
While we were in Oxnard, the wildfires were out of control in LA. They were so close to I10, that I was able to get these pictures. Also, on the way home we drove through Palm springs and saw all the wind mills. Very impressive.
